The Driscoll group heard a very interesting presentation by Prof. Bilge Yildiz, visiting from MIT, about controlling ion movement in solids for applications in neuromorphic computing. By moving ions into and out of the channel of a transistor structure, the channel conductivity can be varied gradually by several orders of magnitude, which is very promising for implementing synaptic functionalities.
